Getting Here

Guimarães is located in the Minho Region, at the very north part of the country, on the coast facing the Atlantic Ocean. The population is the youngest in the country, and the region developed rapidly becoming very modern specially after the creation of the Minho University in the 70s. Founded in the 4th century, Guimarães became the first capital of Portugal in the 12th century (it is known as the “cradle of Portugal)”. Its historic center is an extremely well preserved and an authentic example of the evolution of a medieval settlement into a modern town. Even though Guimarães is a small city, it became world heritage by UNESCO in 2011, European Capital of Culture in 2012, and European City of Sports in 2013. It was also candidate to European Green Capital 2020.
The event will take place on Multiusos de Guimarães, which is a space for events, equipped with a polyvalence that allows to host major sports competitions, congresses, fairs, exhibitions, musical concerts and practically all kind of spectacles. Occupying a total area of 12,270 m2, Guimarães Multiusos has modern and excellent infrastructures, with several areas of use from the Central Nave, Heating Pavilion and two Conference Rooms. Multiusos is located at walking distance from the city center and has two 24-hour car parks, free, with a capacity for 700 vehicles.

By Airplane

The nearest airport to Guimarães is the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto, which is about 50 km from Guimarães. There is a motorway straight from the airport to the city of Guimarães, allowing a trip of 30 minutes by car. By Train

The rail link is through the electrified line, from which are established several direct and / or no direct links between various destinations, which allows the movement between Guimarães / Porto, and vice versa, takes about 60 minutes. For more information click here

By Bus

There are several bus companies engaged links, direct and/or no direct between any point in Portugal and Guimarães. Using the current network of motorways, from Guimarães one can reach Porto in about 30 minutes (A7 and A3), Braga 15 minutes (A11), Vigo 90 minutes (A7 and A3) and Lisbon 180 minutes (A3, A7 and A1).

Acommodation

The city is used to hold international events, and has hotel capacity to hold those events. The local Hotels offer many choices at very reasonable prices.
